1. If you are using TradeStation, each folder you have to set point value. If you mix stock and loan to one folder, you are having difficulty to set point value for all symbols. You have to go one by one.
2. Sectorial play is not more available.
3. Raw data in folders arrangement are actually depend on how good a charting program is programmed to pick it. If you are using Advanced Get, data path one main folder "c:\MetaStock Data" is actually capturing all 25 sub-folders data. Simply type one symbol and chart display immediately.
You can always merge all symbols to one folder, no need to export to ASCII and import again. Just create one folder, put any name you like and use Downloader to copy all symbols to this folder. For updating, manually select all 25 text files and pointing to this new folder for conversion, not more using my autoupdate program. Use at your own risk!
Of course, there are always pro and con for this stuff. You just have to work out. Think on if you are also maintaining oversea stock, will you merge it?
Thanks for the response. I think a lot of people will benefit from being able to search easily. Just to clarify,
1) You mean stock & loan products? How about just separating into 2 folders instead of 25?
2) If data users want to buy by sectors, they can always refer to a list (found in newspapers or online), right?
3) How do you use Advanced Get?
Yeah, that's what Maxforce suggested, and also warned about possible screw-ups, and also can't use your convenient Autoupdate feature.
