If possible, please use more advanced software to do this simple work, for example:- Amibroker is able to data path A to Z. Advanced Get to data path just folder "c:\MetaStock Data" and all subdirectories' symbols arrange from A to Z. Metastock not able to do data path to arrange symbol from A to Z, we can use "Find local securities..." to find a symbol if we don't know which folder it located.
I can easily combine all symbols into one folder but all users need to reinstall historical data. A lot of my users is not computer savvy and afraid to re-setup everything. Since most users feel fine with this arrangement, just forget the meaning of folder name either it is "M" or "S". Treat my data as raw material and you are free to re-arrange it into any method you like.
If you want to merge all symbols into one folder, read this:-
Doing this is not under our support and you may be messy up the data cause of careless. You need to be proficient with Metastock Downloader and understand how it handles data before proceed.
To create one folder MetaStock data, follow these steps:-
1. Create a new folder, use any name you like. For this example, name it "MetaStock ATOZ". Open Downloader, Tool, Copy and select all securities from each folder (ex MFinance, etc) and copy to this new folder. After that, go to Tool, Sort, Securities and browse to this new folder and click Sort. Now you have all securities sort from A to Z under this new folder.
2. To do daily updates, forget about updatev2.exe. Open Downloader, Tool, Convert and at Source browse to C:\bizfun and select all 25 files (file type ASCII Text). At Destination, browse to C:\MetaStock ATOZ\ (file type MetaStock) and click OK to run the conversion.
3. To open chart in MetaStock, open MetaStock and browse to C:\MetaStock ATOZ.
Hope this help and sorry for inconvenience.
Thanks.
